HIFU or Thread Lift: Which Suits Mild Sagging?

HIFU and thread lifts can both help with mild sagging without surgery, but they work in very different ways. Here is how to compare them before your consultation.

HIFU and thread lifts are both non-surgical options for mild sagging. The main difference is how they work: HIFU uses focused ultrasound energy with no incisions, while a thread lift places dissolvable threads under the skin. The right choice depends on your skin and your goals, and your doctor confirms it at an in-person assessment.

How HIFU works

HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. Ultrasound energy reaches the layers beneath the skin without breaking its surface, where it supports the body’s own collagen production. It is used for mild to moderate skin laxity on the face, jawline and neck.

Most people return to daily activities the same day. Results develop gradually and vary from person to person. Read more about HIFU skin tightening.

How a thread lift works

In a thread lift, dissolvable medical threads are placed under the skin to provide lift and support collagen. It is a minimally invasive option for mild sagging, not surgery. Your doctor explains how long the lift may last in your case. Read more about the thread lift.

The main differences

  • Method: HIFU uses focused ultrasound; a thread lift uses dissolvable threads placed under the skin.
  • Skin surface: HIFU does not break the skin surface; a thread lift is minimally invasive.
  • Suited to: HIFU is used for mild to moderate laxity; a thread lift is used for mild sagging.
  • Limits: neither is a surgical facelift, and HIFU does not remove excess skin.

When to avoid each treatment

Your doctor checks your medical history first. Tell them about every condition and medicine, because some people should avoid these treatments.

HIFU may not be suitable if you:

  • are pregnant
  • have an active skin infection or an open wound in the area
  • have metal implants or a device in the treatment area

A thread lift may not be suitable if you:

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • have an active infection in the area
  • take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder

How to decide

You do not need to choose before you visit. At your consultation, your doctor assesses your skin, explains which option may suit you and tells you what it will not do. Your price is given at the consultation, once your plan is clear.

Both treatments are available at all four French Medical Aesthetics branches in Lahore and Karachi. Book a consultation or message us on WhatsApp with your questions.

Results vary from person to person. Treatment is subject to medical assessment.
